Learn How to Play Rockabilly Guitar

Introduction to Playing Rockabilly Guitar

Unlike say jazz – rockabilly guitar is less about musical knowledge – and more about feel and timing – something that can be just as difficult to master. People often look down on rockabilly guitar as simple because it sounds deceptively so – especially when you hear someone like Scotty Moore who concentrated on playing fewer more beautiful notes to fill the song with melody rather than filling it with a 1000 dull and predictable notes – like many shredders do day making us all yawn.

I too was an arrogant mocker – well perhaps I’m being too harsh on myself – rather I too thought it was too easy to bother with and messed around with it a bit when I started guitar – that was until I tried to play rockabilly guitar it properly one day and consistently and I realised I sounded rubbish! Now I’m a little more humble and a little better – but no rockabilly master!

Anyway – in this beginner guitar lesson video below I picked out from the web, rockabilly expert Jinx Jones will introduce you to signature licks, solos and chords of the musical style. As a rockabilly wanna-be – you should also perhaps start with watching one of the originals below – Scotty Moore who due to lack of musicians ahead to develop this style to fill out the sound – and did it with taste and style creating some of the best-known rock solos ever to grace planet earth!
