Howdy folks! Edward here. I just wanted to put on the web the little project I just completed – a custom-painted guitar with some of my original artwork on it – this time featuring the great customised Beatles guitar!

The original artwork was an oil I painted several years ago using black and white oil paints only. With a bit of too-ing and frowing I managed to get a nice copy of it onto the body of a brand-new Squire Stratocaster.

I have to say I have been really really impressed by Fenders’ Squire range in the last few years of looking at them properly. My guess is they needed to fend off some of the many knock-offs (some pretty good) available from companies taking advantage of Fender’s now probably expired design copyright on Leo Fenders’ arguably most incredible Strat design.

Either way I took an HSS (strat with humbucker bridge pickup – I like Van Halen:) Squire to bits and apart from being curious about weather there was any difference in part and sound quality in order to paint the body and discovered Fender have clearly done a great job in cutting down the cost of their Squire range without sacrificing tone and build quality. These are not quite up to their Fender cousins sound-wise (nothing a new or practicing guitarist will worry about at all) BUT it’s very very easy to upgrade this customised Beatles guitar with a new puickguard/pickup configuration or upgrade set which can be soldered in ten minutes (4 wires!) – then you have a top of the line Fender as the neck is great already. You can also if you wish change out the tuning pegs and add custom locking-nut etc but this is only necessary for EVH and hard-rock fans and the like only.

Once I’ finished the paintwork and put it back together – I spent several hours re-setting up and fine-tuning the intonation, re-finishing the neck and frets, balancing the tremolo and adjusting the nut string heights and string heigh generally.

Basically – like all the guitars I re-style I make sure I set it up so it is a guitar I want to not only play – but keep! That’s a rule I set for myself since I started for any guitar I customise to ensure that they not only look pretty, but play beautifully too! Accordingly I really hate letting these out of my site and frankly want to keep them all – but I need to make a living:)
